The phrase "a generalized profile" is correct and usable in written English.
It can be used when referring to a broad or overarching description of characteristics or traits that apply to a group or category rather than to an individual.
Example: "The study aimed to create a generalized profile of consumer behavior across different demographics."
Alternatives: "a broad profile" or "a typical profile".
Given the high sequence divergence of OTU domains, we set out to identify unstudied OTU enzymes using a bioinformatical screen based on generalized profile analysis (Bucher et al., 1996).
