The phrase "a general lecture" is correct and usable in written English.
It can be used to refer to a lecture that covers broad topics or provides an overview of a subject without going into specific details.
Example: "The professor will be giving a general lecture on the history of art this Friday."
Alternatives: "an introductory lecture" or "a broad lecture".
