The phrase "a few populations" is correct and usable in written English.
It can be used when referring to a small number of groups or communities within a larger context, often in scientific or demographic discussions.
Example: "In the study, we observed that a few populations exhibited unique genetic traits that set them apart from the others."
Alternatives: "several groups" or "some communities".
