Last month, the web's already extensive collection of Diana exposés grew three sizes stupider overnight when Unlawful Killing – a long-unavailable 2011 documentary funded by Mohamed Al Fayed and directed by 90s irrelevance Keith Allen – found its way on to YouTube.
She also made documentaries funded by the United States government through the Office of Economic Opportunity (OEO), the United States Information Agency (USIA), and the U.S. Department of Health, Education, and Welfare (HEW).
The documentaries, funded by MetLife Foundation and hosted by Lisa Kudrow, focus on programs that actively engage both children and older adults in creating music, dance, painting, drama, poetry and song.
The case, which has highlighted the plight of Afghan women jailed for so-called moral crimes, was to be the subject of a documentary film funded by the European Union – until diplomats censored it out of fear for the woman's welfare, and for their relations with the Afghan government.
The £2.5 million Diana documentary, funded entirely by Mohamed Al Fayed, claims that the princess and Al Fayed's son Dodi were murdered by the British Establishment, and that there was a media conspiracy in reporting the inquests into their deaths, which were ultimately ruled as "gross negligence" on the part of driver Henri Paul and the photographers in pursuit.
But McAleer welcomes the opportunity to defy political expectations, saying he felt it was important that the documentary be funded by grassroots supporters.
The documentary is being funded by the Herblock Foundation, an entity that was formed after Herblock's death and financed by the $60 million the modest-living cartoonist had amassed through five decades of accumulating stock in the Washington Post Co.
The resulting documentary, which was funded by Kickstarter and earned an Oscar nomination in 2015, cobbles together a narrative of Maier's life with a deep dive through her photographic archive -- over 100,000 images in total -- and interviews with those who knew little about her and even less about her prolific hobby.
