It can be used to describe a version of something that differs significantly from the original or from other versions.
Example: "The author released a divergent version of the story that explored alternative outcomes for the main character."
Alternatives: "an alternative version" or "a variant version".
A divergent version of this site was also found upstream of STM4315.
We crossed the clonal type 2 strain ME49 [ 26], which harbors a monomorphic version of ChrIa, with the type 10 strain VAND [ 27], which has a divergent version of ChrIa [ 8, 16].
