The phrase "a discrepancy was detected" is correct and usable in written English.
It can be used in contexts where an inconsistency or difference has been identified, often in reports or analyses.
Example: "During the audit, a discrepancy was detected in the financial records that required further investigation."
Alternatives: "an inconsistency was found" or "a difference was identified."
