The phrase "a discernment" is correct and usable in written English.
It can be used when referring to the ability to judge well or the process of making a distinction or decision based on insight or understanding.
Example: "Her discernment in choosing the right candidate for the job impressed everyone in the hiring committee."
Alternatives: "a judgment" or "an insight".
