It can be used in contexts where you are discussing the return or reappearance of something after a period of time, particularly in medical or scientific discussions.
Example: "The patient experienced a delayed recurrence of symptoms, prompting further investigation into the underlying causes."
Alternatives: "a postponed return" or "a late reappearance".
