Stocks of north-east Arctic cod are now the highest of any cod species and the highest they have been since 1945 even though the permitted catch is also at record levels.
The gadid AFGP trait is relevant not only to the biology and culturing potential of the cod species, but as an evolutionary innovation, has broad relevance in the pursuit of understanding molecular mechanisms of invention of new gene and function.
Alternatively, given the multispecies ArkChip, the three species of Atlantic wolffish (Anarhichas) [ 28], caribou and reindeer (New and Old World Rangifer, respectively) [ 34], and various cod species (Gadus) [ 15] all provide pairs that are only a few percent divergent.
Some species of yellowtail flounder, for instance, are recovering quickly, while cod species are only inching forward.
This group includes 14 cod species, including thorny, vermillion rock, black cod, ling cod and more.
The pattern is slightly blurred in the cod species because, being adaptable and successful fish, Murray cod push significant distances into upland habitats, while the now endangered trout cod stray (or did stray, before their decline) well down the upland/lowland transition zone, which can be extensive in Murray-Darling rivers.
When comparing levels of ∑PBDEs and HBCD in the two cod species from all four locations, levels of ∑PBDEs were Oslofjord > Froan > Bear Island > Spitsbergen, whereas levels of HBCD were Oslofjord ≈ Froan > Bear Island >> Spitsbergen.
It is therefore possible that the detected levels in the calanoid species and in the two cod species are associated with the cuticle/skin or sediment particles and/or prey species in the intestines (Law et al. 2006a; Leonards et al. 2004).
(4) Heteroplasmic features were observed in three species, namely Arctic cod [ 25], European hake, and silvery pout (Gadiculus argenteus), a codfish species belonging to the family Gadidae.
Our previous study has demonstrated that COD-B, a COD isolated from Bordetella species, is very stable over a wide range of pH values and temperatures and exhibits optimal activity around a pH of 7.0 at 37 oC.
Although the species is called a cod in the vernacular, it is not related to the northern hemisphere marine cod (Gadus) species.
