The phrase "a cd unit" is correct and usable in written English.
It can be used when referring to a device that plays or reads compact discs (CDs).
Example: "I need to buy a new cd unit for my car so I can listen to my favorite albums."
Alternatives: "a CD player" or "a compact disc drive".
