The phrase "a casual link" is correct and usable in written English.
It can be used to describe a non-formal or informal connection between two things, ideas, or events.
Example: "There seems to be a casual link between the increase in screen time and the rise in anxiety among teenagers."
Alternatives: "a loose connection" or "an informal relationship".
I will say the report above does note a casual link between sugary drinks and type 2 diabetes but, as they suggest, more research is needed.
