A pioneer study by Minakami (1960) first defined EXs, classifying volcanic earthquakes into four types: A-, B-type, earthquakeeandhquake, and tremor.
Experiments like these teach kids important chemical reaction mechanisms, such as A + B → Explosion!

For instance, one such scheme uses the law of conservation of momentum to conclude that two particles of equal mass, initially located halfway between A and B and then separated by an explosion, must arrive at A and B simultaneously.

Later in the night, along with the sharp crack and whine of outgoing artillery the men heard the smothered thumping of bombing, including the rapid series of deep explosions that indicates a B-52 raid.

A more apposite comparison, unfortunately, is Thomas Heatherwick's ill-fated Manchester landmark The B of the Bang, a steel "explosion" celebrating Linford Christie's description of how quickly he reacted to a starting gun.
