The phrase "a avian" is not correct in written English.
The correct form is "an avian" because "avian" begins with a vowel sound.
Example: "The scientist studied an avian species that was native to the region."
Alternatives: "a bird" or "an avifauna".
These mutants were hereafter named according to the source of their genes in the order of PB2, PB1, PA and NP (A: avian; M: mammalian).
