Geilo is a small town in a valley with two piste areas - Vestlia and Slaatta - on either side, making up the Geilolia Skisenter.
If either of the two piste areas begins to feel a little familiar, you can hop on a ski bus for the five-minute trip to the opposite mountain and a whole new range of slopes.
There is only one ageing tow-rope, and it's staffed entirely by volunteers, but the three pistes have never been so busy.
But if you'd rather be active, the newly opened Snoras indoor snowslope (visitlithuania.net), also in Druskininkai, has three pistes and a snowboarding park.
"People think Sainte-Foy is four lifts and eight pistes," he told me, "but it's not, it has closer to 2,000 runs, because you can ski the whole mountain".
"There are maybe five or six piste-bashers in Kyrgyzstan," says Azret Daniiarov, owner and manager of Suusamyr Lodge, "and we have two of them".
With four piste areas (the Dorfgastein-Grossarl area, the Schlossalm-Angertal-Stubnerkogel, the Graukogel and the Sportgastein) there are over 200km of ski runs to choose from here, plus 45 lifts, a funicular railway and a free ski bus linking it all up.
There are also snowboard and free-riding areas, and one piste is open for night skiing on Saturdays (half-day passes from £12).
Schumacher fell, striking his head on a rock, while skiing in deep snow between two official pistes at Meribel in the French Alps on Sunday morning.
