One gout expert I interviewed told me that gout triggers are relevant and consequential only in real time, once flare-ups have begun, while another specialist told me that a predisposition to gout could be exacerbated over the years by regular consumption of those triggers.
In six patients the reason for exclusion was an alternate final diagnosis [osteomyelitis (three); gout (two); deep venous thrombosis (one)].
Fifty-five gout cases were obtained from the Framingham Heart Study FHS Offspringng data set and combined with 17 gout cases from the Generation 3 data.
These eight gout controls represent a set of fifty controls as established before [ 8] and were used on each plate to minimize plate-to-plate variation.

Overall, the combination of colchicine and any one of the NSAIDS were prescribed in 3.5 million (2.4 to 4.6 million) gout patients, representing 3.6% (2.6%, 4.8%) of all gout visits.
