PSA process performance was strongly influenced by design parameters (such as: bed size, adsorbent physical properties, configuration and number of beds) and operating variables (such as: pressurization time, production time, purge time, feed flow rate, purge flow rate, production flow rate, temperature and/or pressure variations).
The degree of inactivation depends on the pressure levels, pressurization time, and type of enzyme (Hurtado et al.2001a).2001a
A central composite experimental design with three factors (pressure, pressure-holding time, and post-pressurization incubation time) using response surface methodology was used to optimize the germination rate in distilled water and in skim milk.
The results showed that pressure-induced germination was maximal (62%) after a treatment at 200 MPa and 20 °C and increased with pressure-holding time and post-pressurization incubation time.
However, a shorter pressurization time compared to a longer or intermediate time resulted in a significant improvement in patient ventilator synchrony.
To improve patient ventilator synchrony, it is possible in most current mechanical ventilators to adjust the pressurization time and the expiratory cycling off criteria to better match the neural time with the ventilator time [ 15- 18].
The effects of pressure drop equation, isotherm shape, adsorbent capacity, pressure ratio and feed composition on penetration distance, pressurization time and pressurization amount are assessed.
Pressurization time reported in this work does not include the pressure come-up and release times.
As for the pressurization time, there was no significant difference in the absorbance level among the pressurization times of 5, 10, 30, and 60 min for the same pressurization group at both 100 and 200 MPa.
In addition, we also evaluated the damage of the extra cellular matrix of the skin according to the maximum pressurization time of 60 minutes.
