The necessary is a subset of the possible and the contingent is the possible that is not necessary.
The necessary is "rich" because it is independent of any thing; the possible is "poor" because it cannot exist without something else (i.e., without the cause).
The necessary is always possible.
But sometimes the necessary is impossible — and we just can't keep chasing that rainbow this way.
The problem is that while judicial supervision is necessary for fair trials and lawful detention, the necessary is not sufficient.
In the alternatives of doing the necessary or nothing, I prefer nothing if the necessary is unpalatable.
