The memoranda from White House counsel, and from Department of Justice and Department of Defense lawyers, gave new meaning to Robert Lowell's phrase "savage servility".
The Memoranda are the agreements designed by the two major party campaigns each election season which govern the format and rules of the debates.
The memoranda consisted of sets of three human faces (50% females/50% males), chosen to maximize the similarities and hence make the task more difficult.
Gone are the references to "tearing up" the memoranda of conditions attached to the country's rescue programmes.
The second, say the memoranda, was for Enron to "get paid for moving energy to relieve congestion without actually moving any energy or relieving any congestion".
In her words, the memoranda warned the industry: "Overtly confront the Legacy Foundation at your peril; they have broad public support for their program".
"It is a very good coincidence for the Greek people but a very bad coincidence for those who want to connect it to the memoranda".
It is not related, whatsoever, to Greek debt or any policies connected to the memoranda," he said, referring to the deeply unpopular bailout accords.
"Many of the personalities candidly discussed in sensitive White House memoranda, and certainly many of the authors of the memoranda, will be active 12 years from now".
Following the vote, Syriza's leader, Alexis Tsipras, said the country had experienced "a historic day", adding: "In a few days the Samaras government, which pillaged the country, will belong to the past, as will the memoranda of austerity".
Among the memoranda and spread sheets that make up most corporate communications, the goodbye memo -- mass-mailed to colleagues on an employee's last day -- has become a kind of mini-genre of its own.
