Nevertheless, in a combined analysis of the data from the same trial and a supplementary trial where metformin was given in combination with sulfonylureas, the effect of metformin on cardiovascular outcomes was not substantiated, due to increased cardiovascular mortality in the combination group (HR 1.96) (2).
Conservation efforts also include an international effort to sequence the genomes of every known living kakapo, artificial insemination techniques, and supplementary feeding trials to optimise productivity.
14 15 We conducted a randomised, investigator blinded controlled supplementary feeding trial in Malawi to test the hypothesis that among wasted adults with HIV starting antiretroviral therapy, patients who receive the fortified spread for 14 weeks will have a greater increase in BMI and fat-free body mass than those receiving corn-soy blend.
Use of iron was associated with significantly increased mean haemoglobin concentration in the third trimester or at delivery (mean difference 4.50 (3.62 to 5.39) g/L; I=0%; 31 trials; supplementary figure 19) and in the postpartum period (7.01 (0.36 to 13.66) g/L; I=0%; eight trials; supplementary figure 20) compared with no iron or placebo.
To graphically illustrate this interaction analysis containing pain and love only, we also calculated the group differences during observation, only considering pain and love trials (Supplementary Fig. 3), and plotted activation during empathy in regions showing group differences during observation (Supplementary Fig. 4).
The burst dynamics was highly variable across trials (Supplementary Fig. 3 showing gamma bursting for all trials of a single electrode), with brief high-power events that were only weakly correlated across trials (see Supplemental Text 1 and Supplementary Fig. 4 for an investigation of non-stationary nature of gamma).
Interestingly, while univariate results showed that EC firing rates distinguished both between AM+ vs. NAM HITs and between NAM HITs vs. CRs (similar to patterns reported for perirhinal cortex44,45,46), there was no difference in EC firing rates between AM+ and AM− trials (Supplementary Figure 1).
Late ERP waves P3 and N2pc were processed in a slightly different fashion due to the high sensitivity they show to target presence: A P3b-like (from now on P3 for simplicity) component was identified by a rather distributed scalp topography, which appeared more clearly over central and parietal sites, showing no significant differences between target and no-target trials (supplementary Figure S2).
