The source for such galls was the eastern Mediterranean (particularly Lebanon and south-eastern Turkey), with Roman Italy as the major historical destination.
Treatments with LVC while controlling the nematodes in the soil, reduced root infected indices to nematodes such as gall and egg No. and gall index in the root and at the same time, cucumber growth indices in treatments having VW get increased which indicated that nematode damage on the host plant has been compensated.

The lack of other known causes of acute pancreatitis such as gall stones, alcohol abuse, hypercalcaemia, hypertriglyceridaemia, and trauma, added more evidence to the diagnosis.
