Instructional psychology is the study of the processes and outcomes of human learning in a variety of educational and instructional settings, and of the nature and the design of environments that are appropriate to elicit those learning processes aiming at the attainment of competence and of a disposition toward skilled learning, thinking, and problem solving in a given subject-matter domain.
Some individuals work directly on issues of classroom practice, others identify as much with fields such as educational policy analysis, curriculum theory, teacher education, or some particular subject-matter domain such as math or science education, as they do with philosophy of education.
