PAGE A27 A TALK-SHOW BOUNTY -- The election dispute is good news for political talk shows, which foresee years of combative conversation.
There are cops shows, bounty hunters, forensic investigators that illustrate the darkness in human nature while reality TV gives us a slice of life few of us experience, and that invokes and rewards tactical treachery -- then admires that treachery as laudable strategy.
Mr. Moore decided that since many reality shows include celebrities, Mr. Lamas, who once starred in "Renegade," a show about bounty hunters, could be explained as someone looking to revive his career.
(The hunting metaphor pervades this life, which Dog explains with maxims like, "a cur dog can whip a pit bull in his own yard".) The series is a bargain episodic drama, bound to be outproduced by HBO's coming "Family Bonds," another reality show about bounty hunting, but this one gives a close and dirty look at Dog's fast-moving world, giving enough time to his home life for easy irony.
But instead of a reality show, in "Bounty Killer," Mary's famous for being "the greatest killer the world has ever known," a ferocious, bloodthirsty pinup queen.
This frisky show about bounty hunters scratched a number of itches for me: It is a brisk, energetic and enjoyable action hour, and I can never get enough of that kind of escapist fare; it is set in on other planets and features actual spaceships, which is, sadly, a rarity on TV these days; and it is a smart show featuring a complicated and charismatic black woman as the lead.
