While damage rates declined (median 3% in dentin and 4% in calculus) after these verification steps (Wilcoxon sign rank test, dentin p = 1.36E-15, calculus p = 6.74E-15; SupplementaryTableTable S9), all samples except one dentin (KT05, Supplementary Figure S5d) present damage patterns consistent with authentic aDNA both pre- and post-verification.
Three showed an increase in the post-verification, but were not significant.
