Now, nearly 75 years later, can a slang dictionary possibly hope to uncover any "lost words"?
Mrs. Baiter, 58, is the author of four books on language, including "Poplollies and Bellibones: A Celebration of Lost Words" (Clarkson N. Potter, 1977) and "Lost Words of Love" (Potter, 1993).
It has spawned at least one blog, Lost Words in the Chamber, which has regularly posted the last statements since 2011.
It's an era recent enough that its speech is still comprehensible, but it's sufficiently long ago to offer up lost words and expressions that reinvigorate language and make the past come alive.
We're not going to lose our job or a loved one over a few lost words.
