"It was a privilege to manage Fulham, one of the great clubs in the Premier League or anywhere in the world," Jol said in Fulham's statement.
"Mousa Dembélé has stayed in London," Jol said.
"Sometimes you have to change something to get back to winning ways and I thought it was necessary to get someone like him and I think it has paid off in training," Jol said.
After a recent meeting in which Jol assured Levy he was the man to lead the club forward, an immediate decision over his future is unlikely but it is believed that an embarrassing defeat against the Gunners might yet result in the guillotine falling.
In attack Jol's options are plentiful: Dimitar Berbatov, 23 goals last season and a reported price tag of £30m; Robbie Keane, 22 goals last season and an accumulative career transfer fee of £38m; Jermain Defoe, 18 goals last season and a £7m signing from West Ham three years ago; and, of course, Darren Bent, 37 goals in the past two seasons and a £16.5m buy from Charlton this summer.
