The second, perhaps more pertinent observation is that the occupancy of the terminally zinc-coordinated water molecule, which has been suggested to serve as the proton source in decay of the intermediate, is substantially lower in the CcrA and NDM-1 structures (non-cooperative, Figure 7B).
