The first group (n = 10) was subdivided into two subgroups (n = 5 each one) that received: (i) nothing (control experiment with no vehicles; see below); and (ii) an i.v. continuous infusion of DHE (3.1 μg/kg·min), a dose that has previously been shown to produce (amongst several doses) a maximal inhibition of the vasodepressor sensory CGRPergic outflow in pithed rats [16].
