The phrase 'I grieved alone' is correct and usable in written English
You can use it to describe a feeling of emotional sorrow that one has experienced without the support of another person. For example, you might say, "After the death of my mother, I grieved alone for many months."
"I wanted my husband and I to grieve alone personally and then as a united front explain to the kids".
