And what the French argued is that it was a clever ploy on my part, because I could study them faster than the French could, so that I didn't need to patent them, and it was a way of keeping them from doing so.
"I could not study because of financial problems, so I thought I must send my children to school and wipe out the darkness from their lives," he added.
He came here young, you know; he couldn't study because he couldn't speak French in the beginning.
But it was a spectacular one, and a useful case because the researchers could study its before-and-after effects reasonably isolated from other environmental influences.
"I am illiterate because I could not study, I had to work," he said.

I was relieved he cracked my cover, because now I could comfortably study the clothes, which were dangling on hangers in fascinating folds.
"Since I was a child my dream was to study, but I couldn't because my parents were really poor," says Villanueva. "I felt this was a serious obstacle in my life".
After that point, I had renewed interest in what I was studying because I could connect people that I cared about to the concepts that I was learning about.
That was a mistake, of course, because I could have studied many other things.
The reported outbreaks in this study reflect the tip of the iceberg; only 10% of all reported outbreaks could be studied because of capacity and resources for prompt reporting and investigation.
