I was oppositional, defiant.

Politically it was oppositional without being ideological, or rather it embraced many ideologies.

The press is vibrant, it's oppositional, calls for his resignation, calls him a madman, and sometimes calls for an overthrow of the government.

A brief summary of his trajectory as a writer would be to say that it began by being oppositional - i.e. he set out to write books that were not-literary-fiction - and then discovered that he had come upon an identity of his own, which did not depend on not-being anything.
For me, those moods have a sublime and absurd connection that I've never understood to be oppositional in the same way other people have.

People with ADD are known for being oppositional but frequently (and I suggest is the case with the rest of us too) there is perfectionism lurking around the corner -- from parents and teachers -- and from within.
