"We're thinking it won't be as dry as last year — that's our guess, and 8 to 10 inches is a really good start," said Jim Kalina, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service.
While storm surges causing moderate and localized major flooding had been forecast for this afternoon, "It seems to have come in under what we had initially expected, which is a good thing," said David Stark, a meteorologist with the Weather Service's Upton, N.Y., office.

The meteorologists interviewing Obama on Tuesday include: Al Roker, co-anchor of NBC's Today Show; Ginger Zee, meteorologist on ABC's Good Morning America; John Morales, chief meteorologist of NBC 6 in Miami, Florida, and Jim Gandy, meteorologist of WLTX-TV in Columbia, South Carolina.
"That's because of our good friend Lake Ontario," said Maureen McCann, a meteorologist with WTVH, the CBS affiliate in Syracuse, which is about 25 miles south of Parish.
