Focus molecules correspond to the number of genes included in functional network.
Focus Molecules are the differentially expressed gene products with experimental evidence of the linkage to disease pathogenesis and are denoted by capital letters, while small letters designate inferred interactions.
Focus molecules found in network #1 can be summarized by the following functions: stimulation of various secreting proteins, inhibition of the cell death pathway, and attenuation of oxidative stress.
Note that additional highly connected non focus molecules are also included.
The highest scoring network (Figure 1) incorporated 18 out of the 24 differentially expressed proteins (focus molecules) indicated in Table 2, and the second network incorporated 5 focus molecules.
These genes, or focus molecules, were overlaid onto a global molecular network developed from information contained in the Ingenuity Pathways Knowledge Base.
The number one ranked network (score = 62, focus molecules = 33) (Figure 4) is associated with Cardiovascular System Development and Function, Cellular Growth and Proliferation and Cell Morphology.
Direct and indirect relationships with a maximum of 35 focus molecules per network were included.
Significantly, the network identified with the highest score included CHKA among the focus molecules.
Network analysis by IPA was used to draw connections between interacting focus molecules.
The network with the highest score consisted of 35 molecules in 25 focus molecules and 11 interconnecting molecules.
