Excessive, repeated, or chronic stress in the initial years of life can deregulate the biological stress systems and induce epigenetic modifications – structural changes in DNA that make the DNA at that locus easier or more difficult to read.
Several crosses also segregated for the mid-band locus, so the genotype at that locus was also inferred (mid-band dominant; U3 > U-).
