Our phylogeographic analysis, along with the observation of high genetic diversity in this region (Table 3), supports this scenario, suggesting a similar history as that reported in primates [ 37, 58], carnivores [ 56], and rodents [ 72], and adds to reports asserting that western Amazonia has played an important role in divergence and speciation in the Neotropics [ 32, 49, 73].
