NIV failure was associated with an increased risk of in-hospital death, ICU and hospital stay and was not affected by baseline PaCO2 levels.
In our prospective cohort study, NIV failure in patients with acute respiratory failure was associated with increased in-hospital mortality, ICU and hospital stay and was not affected by baseline PaCO2 levels.
