The hydrophobic residue number is in harmony with the number of hydrophobic residues of the protein (chain A: Ile-50, Pro-81, Val-82, Ile-84; chain B: Pro-81, Val-82, Ile-84).
The mutation that we identified at amino acid 145 within motif I changes a Thr, a polar uncharged amino acid, to an Ile, a nonpolar hydrophobic amino acid.
The connection between α-helices V and VI was restored when the conserved Leu195 was replaced by an Ile, a combination that represent the compensated background (Ile195-Ile196, Figure 1D and Figure 1E).
