A data set (NucMt) consisting of eight mitochondrial genes (COX1-3, CYTB, NAD6, ATP8, 12S and partial 16S), as well as three nuclear genes 18S rRNA, 28S rRNA and EF1α were analyzed using the 7 available ingroup mitochondrial genomes plus 3 outgroups (2 mollusks and 1 brachiopod).

Although reported πsilent values for animal mitochondrial genomes can be as high as ~67 × 10-3 (nemathose), those for arthropods (~27 × 10-3), birds (~17 × 10-3), echinoderms (~11.7 × 10-3), and mollusks (~13.5 × 10-3) are 0.8 1.9 times the πsilent value reported here for the C. reinhardtii ptDNA, which is reasonably close considering the stark contrast in genome architectures.
