Many phylogeographic studies in LCA have been conducted on a diverse assemblage of organisms, including trees [ 11, 12], mammals [ 13– 15], fish [ 16, 17], and amphibians [ 3, 18, 19].
Dax1 orthologs have been isolated and studied in different groups such as birds [52], reptiles [37], [53] and amphibians [54].
Evidence for RCD comes from groups as diverse as fungi [ 4, 5], plants [ 6], insects [ 7, 8] mollusks [ 9], fish [ 10, 11] and amphibians [ 12].
However, the lower vertebrates, including fish [ 10, 11], birds [ 12] and amphibians [ 13- 17], typically contain a greater number of ZP genes and subtypes [ 18].
These phenotypic changes may be transient, as documented e.g. in plants [20], insects [21] and amphibians [18].
The park is home to about 40 species of mammals, 30 reptiles, 11 amphibians, and at least 230 birds.
We think there are 42 reptiles, including turtles, lizards and snakes, and 33 amphibians, such as salamanders and frogs, and 16 of them are endangered or threatened.
González-Maya said that this pattern could redefine how scientists understood chytrid fungus, which has caused the extinction of over 200 amphibians and threatens hundreds more.
Of the 10 amphibians selected by the zoo, five are critically endangered – the highest level of alert.
Discovered through hundreds of scientific expeditions between 2010 to 2013, the total of 441 new species – all new to science – includes 258 plants, 84 fish, 58 amphibians, 22 reptiles, 18 birds and one mammal.
