The survey included 143 human resources managers at companies that, together, employ about 2.9 million people.
Challenger, Gray and Christmas surveyed 150 human resources representatives across the US for its report.

A KPMG survey, "Global Assignment Policies and Practices," released in December, found that just 4percentt of the 430 human resources executives surveyed said that they effectively manage the repatriation process.
In a survey of 100 human resources executives, only 5percentt said that recent college graduates lacked computer or technology skills, according to Challenger, Gray & Christmas, the outplacement firm.
The survey, titled "Effectiveness of the Human Resources Function," is based on responses from 82 chief executives and 84 human resources executives, mostly at Fortune 500 companies.

In a survey in early October of nearly 450 human resources officials by the Society for Human Resource Management, some 39percentthoughththatat future layoffs were likely at their companies, and 55percentthoughththatat hiring freezes were probable.
And according to a Conference Board survey of 431 human resources professionals, writing is one of the biggest employee skill gaps.
