This provided frequency tables which were used to interrogate the 300 nt region downstream of the 40 transcripts predicted to be enriched in stumpy forms (i.e. those genes with a -1, -1, -1, -1, -1 trinary profile; Additional file 5) this being carried out using the Regulatory Sequence Analysis Tools RSATT) web server [ 65].
To assess the validity of the observed expression profiles for stumpy elevated transcripts, a subset of 6 genes from the 'stumpy-enriched' (-1, -1, -1, -1, -1) trinary group and a control transcript (Tb10.389.0540), which was well expressed but had low standard deviation across all time points, were evaluated by qRT-PCR against the mRNA samples used to hybridize to the array replicates.
The objects were 32 × 32 pixel (64 × 64 minarc) trinary noise squares (each pixel of an object having luminance values of 32.75, 65.5, or 98.25 cd/m with probability 1/3), and with stimulus onset, they started moving at 6.67°/s.
To do so, the team first translated written words or other data into a standard binary code of 0s and 1s, and then converted this to a trinary code of 0s, 1s, and 2s a step needed to help prevent the introduction of errors.
Next, we reduced the 61 × 9 tables to 3 × 1 tables of trinary values (+, −, and 0), as we explain below.
Under noisy environment, the original binary census transform yields very different encoded bits as shown in Fig. 3b, while the trinary census transform produces more consistent encoded bits with only one error as shown in Fig. 3c.
The trinary TiO2@ZnS In2S3 heterostructures exhibit high adsorption capacity and visible light photocatalytic activity for the degradation of rhodamine B dye (RhB), remarkably superior to pure TiO2 nanofibers or binary structures (ZnS/TiO2 nanofibers, In2S3/TiO2 nanofibers and ZnS In2S3 solid solution).
In (3), ρ is a selected threshold for reducing the noisy effect and should be proportional to I(p). Figure 3 shows how trinary census works well under noise environments.
The complete CGI data sets as trinary scores (present = 1; absent = 0; and multicopy = 2) are available in supplementary Table S5.
The status for all genes was converted into trinary scores (present = 2; divergent = 1; highly divergent or absent = 0).
Addressing these issues, Yeffet and Wolf proposed local trinary patterns (LTP) [32] which combined local binary patterns with appearance and adaptability invariance of patch similarity matching approaches.
