Of the remaining 120 patients, 13 had sludge, 11 had a dilated common bile duct, one had a positive sonographic Murphy sign, and 95 had no abnormalities.
Musically they were steeped in the 70s sludge rock of Led Zeppelin and (primarily) Black Sabbath, leavened with the then-obligatory twist of insurrectionary post-punk attitude.
With an increase in MLSS concentration (from 2.3 to 16 mg L−1) or in conductivity (from 20 to 60 mS cm−1), sludge settling was significantly worse.
Although results show better filtration efficiency for activated sludge (e.g. SS removal around 98.4%) than for septage (e.g. SS removal around 87.5%), the feasibility of septage treatment with SDRB has been demonstrated with, at 50 kg SS m−2 y−1 sludge accumulation, and dry matter about 7.9 cm y−1 and 70% (summer period), respectively.
Under operating conditions with 12 16 h hydraulic retention time and 8000 16 000 mg l−1 sludge concentration in the bioreactor, COD removal efficiency was above 98% for 900 1600 mg l−1 influent COD and nitrification above 95% with 50 600 mg l−1 total nitrogen fed to the membrane bioreactor.
Additionally, sludge from D5 showed decreased toxicity after digestion in opposite to digested D6 sludge demonstrating increased toxicity.
