Post-surgery pathological reports diagnosed 2 well-differentiated adenocarcinomas, 21 moderately differentiated adenocarcinomas, 69 poorly differentiated adenocarcinomas, 1 signet-ring cell carcinoma, 2 mucinous adenocarcinomas, and 3 severe dysplasia with cancerization.
Antibodies used were anti-APLP2 (Calbiochem), anti-ATP7A (Abcam), anti-ATP7B N-terminus antibody (Novus), anti-APP (MAB348 from Chemicon; 6E10 from Signet), 1C2 (anti-polyglutamine) (Chemicon) and anti-SOD1 (Chemicon).
Other primary tumors that have been reported in the ampulla of Vater are squamous cell carcinoma, neuroendocrine carcinoma [10, 11], and signet cell carcinoma [12, 13].

After being blocked with milk, the blotted membrane was probed with anti-amyloid oligomer antibody A11 (1∶1000; Biosource, USA) [2] or 4G8 (1∶1000; Signet, USA).
Antibodies and dilutions used in this study include 6E10 (1∶1000 Signet, Dedham, MA, USA), CT20 (1∶5,000; Calbiochem, San Diego, CA, USA) for C99 and C83, and αActin (1∶10,000; Sigma-Aldrich, USA).
Protein extracts were immunoprecipitated with the anti-Aβ antibody 6E10 (Signet), separated on 10 20% Tris-Tricine gels (Invitrogen), and transferred to nitrocellulose membranes (Invitrogen).
40 µl of the mixtures were mixed with 10 µl of 1 mg/ml control IgG (anti-β ˜tubulin, G712A, Promega) or 1 mg/ml anti-Aβ IgG (anti-6E10, SIG-39320, Signet; anti-4G8, SIG-9240, Signet) (final concentrations: 0.1 mg/ml IgG, 13 µM Aβ42, and 13 nM QDAβ(6)), and centrifuged at 10,000×g for 1 min at 4°C to remove any aggregates.
Mouse and Syrian hamster PrP was recognized by incubation with monoclonal anti-PrP antibodies, 6H4 (Prionics, Zurich, Switzerland), D13 (Inpro, South San Francisco, CA), 3F4 (Signet Laboratory, Boston, MA), and 5C6 (raised against full length recombinant cervid PrP. G. Telling, unpublished data).
