On the other hand, the spin Hamiltonian H =– J1 S1S4+S2S3) – J2(S1S3+S2S4) – J3S1S2, where S1 = S2 = S3 = S4 = SCu =1/2, was used to study the magnetic behaviour of the double open cubane core of complex 3 and a good agreement between the experimental and simulated results was found by using the parameters g1 = g2 =2.20, g3 = g4 =2.18, J1 =−36 cm-1, J2 =−44 cm-1 and J3 =0 cm-1.
Variable-temperature magnetic susceptibility measurements of 2 and 3 show the occurrence of moderate (J = −8.5 cm−1) to weak intramolecular antiferromagnetic couplings (J = −2.0 cm–1) [H = −JS1·S2 with S1 = S2 = SCu = ½] inspite of the relatively large copper copper separation across the para-substituted biphenylene- (r = 12.3 Å) and terphenylenediamine (r = 16.4 Å) bridges, respectively.
In agreement with their face-sharing dicubane structure, a Hamiltonian of the type H =– J1(S1S2+S1S2'+S1'S2+S1'S2') – J2S1S1', where S1 = S1' = S2 = S2' = SCu =1/2, was used for studying complexes 1 and 2. Simulations performed suggest magnetic exchange constants with values close to J1 =−20 cm−1 and J2 =0 cm-1 for these complexes.
pHV4 exhibits a chimeric SCU, with 6 GIs similar to the chromosome and 3 GIs with the same SCU as pHV1.
The mean age of the 32 patients (22 males, 10 females) admitted to the SCU for postoperative care was 63.2 ± 12.2 years (median 66 years, range 30-84years).
The mean total stay in the SCU was 11.2 ± 17.6days (median 4.5 days, range 1⌓78 days).
Furthermore, 3 of the 4 orc genes on pHV4 (orc12 orc12 and orc13) are found in GIs with a SCU similar to pHV1.
By contrast, pHV1 has an SCU that is totally unlike the chromosome (data not shown).
Multiple specimens (20 30) of F. fusca and M. scabrinodis were collected from single nests (NIDO SCU-34, F. fusca; NIDO SCU-30, M. scabrinodis) at: Prà bestemà 850 m.a.s.l., Prada, Monte Baldo, Verona, Italy (45 °38′50.27″N; 10 °45′24.98″E; 10-VIII-2012) by Antonio Scupola who also identified them.
All adults over the age of 18 years, registered at the SCU for at least 1 year, and presenting for health maintenance visit from January to June 2005 were invited to take part and none declined.
Of these, 32 out of 537 patients (6.0%) undergoing surgical treatment were admitted to the SCU, whereas four out of 511 patients (0.8%) who were receiving medical treatment only were admitted to the SCU.
