"Since Oct. 1, sales have been hard core: cocktails, manhattans, bottles of wine, vodka on the rocks and martinis -- no flavored martinis, just the real stuff".
But that's just what happens: television ads, the movie industry's No. 1 sales tool, are as wide a net as there is.
Certainly not Saks's competitors: as previously reported, for the period ending Nov. 1, sales at stores open at least a year were down 11.1percentt at Nordstrom and 14.5percentt at Neiman Marcus.
According to a new report by Nielsen SoundScan, which tracks retail music sales, 826,000 country albums have been sold so far this year in the New York metropolitan region, making it the No. 1 sales area in the country.
Though same-store sales fell 1.5percentt in the quarter ending Nov. 1, sales of sewing and craft supplies, which account for half of revenue, were stable that quarter and have climbed this quarter, said Lisa Greb, a Jo-Ann spokeswoman.
