A rare American visit for "Arrangement in Gray and Black No. 1: Portrait of the Artist's Mother," on loan from the Musée d'Orsay in Paris.
Adds that the "No. 1 portrait was van Gogh's of the narrow-jawed, kindly-faced Belgian painter Eugene Boch, which belongs to the Jeu de Paume Museum of Paris".
The show includes his most famous work -- "Arrangement in Grey and Black, No. 1: Portrait of the Artist's Mother," known as "Whistler's Mother" -- on a rare trip to the United States from its home at the Musée d'Orsay in Paris.
Other museums organizing Whistler exhibitions for 2003 include the Hunterian, which is presenting a number of shows devoted to him, including "Beauty and the Butterfly: Whistler's Depictions of Women" and "Arrangement in Gray and Black No. 1: "Portrait of the Painter's Mother".
