Besides regulating gene transcription, TR3 also interacts with many proteins to exert its non-genomic functions in the absence of DNA binding (Lin et al., 2004; Moll et al., 2006).
In human embryogenesis, it appears in the small intestinal epithelium at embryonic week 8 (Moll et al. 1993b).
The basal cells and myoepithelial layers are positive for keratins 5/6, 14, and 17 (Moll et al. 1983).
Members of the p53 family mediate genotoxic stress responses in cells (Vogelstein et al, 2000; Yang & McKeon, 2000; Moll & Slade, 2004; Westfall & Pietenpol, 2004).
Additionally, fibulin-1C expression is induced by oestradiol in oestrogen receptor α (ER α -positive ovarian tumour cells (Clinton et al, 1996; Moll et al, 2002).
However, extensive microglia activation, behind a closed or repaired blood brain barrier, has been described in progressive MS cases [Frischer et al., 2009; Moll et al., 2011].
On the other hand, the role of individual UP family proteins in bladder cell function has also been demonstrated recently (Lobban et al., 1998; Moll et al., 1995).
These antibodies include MAb AE14 (Moll et al. 1989) against K5 and MAbs LL001 and LL002 against K14 (Purkis et al. 1990).
Most cases, including metastases, exhibit a K7−/K20+ phenotype (Fig. 3c, d) or express K7 at lower level as compared to K20 (Moll et al. 1992; Miettinen 1995; for further references, see Moll 1998, Chu and Weiss 2002b).
Among tumors, K6 and K16 are typically and strongly expressed in squamous cell carcinomas of different sites (Moll et al. 1982b; Moll 1998), preferentially in inner, maturing layers of the tumor cell nests (Fig. 4d).
