The modelling work involves three tasks (Tang et al., 2010): (1) modelling geometry information of building components; (2) assigning a BIM object category (i.e. wall, column, door or window) to a component and adding related properties such as material type, demolition cost, and recycling method; and (3) establishing relationships between components, for instance, window1 is linked to wall1.
This is achieved by: (1) modelling architectural variability at design-time using the Common Variability Language (CVL), and (2) using a genetic algorithm that finds nearly-optimal configurations at run-time using the information provided by the variability model.
To gain quantitative information on the extent of the problem, the formation of macroscopic butt welds in this material was studied, by (1) modelling the process and (2) measuring experimentally the resultant evolution of interface toughness.
Stage 1: modelling the process by which requirements can be created from crime scripts, Stage 2: identifying the type of detects encountered in RDs, Stage 3: using the model to deduce the defects in scripts that could cause those in RDs.
Phase 1, modelling, aims to improve the understanding of intervention components and their relationships, while Phase 2 aims to develop the optimum intervention and study design.
