ILC1 is a newly confirmed group 1 ILC population that is distinct from cNK cells.
Functions of NK cells of the group 1 ILC family have been well established, which include killing virus-infected cells through cytolysis mediated by granzymes and perforin, and targeting tumor cells that have lost expression of the class I major histocompatibility complex (MHCI) (Biron et al., 1999; Vivier et al., 2012).
In the following text only the real-time PCR results for the 13 invasive carcinomas (12 IDC ± DCIS and 1 ILC) are discussed in detail.
On further review it was determined that 3 of 12 "FN" PEM index lesions were missed due to poor patient positioning (cases: 1 ILC, 1 IDC/DCIS, and 1 IDC), such that the portion of the breast with the lesion was not included in the field of view.

For example, group 2 ILCs (ILC2s) can produce the effector cytokine IL-5 and IL-13 like Th2 cells, group 3 ILCs (ILC3s) can produce IL-22, IL-17a, and IL-17f as Th17/Th22 cells, and group 1 ILCs (ILC1s) can produce IFN-γ and TNF-α like Th1 cells.
As of now, the ILCs nomenclature introduced by Spits et al. (2013) is widely accepted, with NK cells and ILC1s belonging to group 1 ILCs.
The group 1 ILCs are composed of ILCs capable of producing interferon γ (IFNγ), which include NK cells and non-cytotoxic helper-like ILC1s.
Group 1 ILCs are defined by their ability to produce IFN-γ and inability to produce IL-4, IL-13, IL-22, and IL-17.
ILCs have been categorized into three groups, including group 1 ILCs (ILC1s), group 2 ILCs (ILC2s), and group 3 ILCs (ILC3s), based on their cytokine profiles and the transcription factors that are utilized for their development and function.
Chronic eRapa increased NK1.1+NKp46+ group 1 ILCs (natural killer cells) and lineage−CD4+c‐kit+ group 3 ILCs (also called lymphoid tissue inducers) in spleen and Peyer's patches (Fig. 6A,B).
Group 1 ILCs (ILC1s) produce interferon γ and depend on Tbet, group 2 ILCs (ILC2s) produce type 2 cytokines like interleukin-5 (IL-5) and IL-13 and require GATA3, and group 3 ILCs (ILC3s) include lymphoid tissue inducer (LTi) cells, produce IL-17 and/or IL-22, and are dependent on ROR γt [ 88].
