F1 Fireball Over the Pacific American space and ground sensors that monitor the globe for nuclear blasts detected the explosion of a meteoroid several hundred miles southwest of Los Angeles last month that had nearly the force of the atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima.
It's become something of a local attraction in the eastern Scottish coastal town, with most of the residents lining the high street just before midnight, as a procession of 60 fireball swingers make their way towards the harbour, where the flaming orbs are tossed into the sea, before the residents head back to the town square for a knees-up and, no doubt, a wee dram.

These data confirm that these events correspond to a Geminid bolide (Figure 3a), a Northern χ-Orionid (Figure 3b), and an α-Capricornid (Figure 3c) fireball, respectively.
The FR-1 Fireball equipped a single squadron before the end of the war, but did not see combat.
