Seven of the 55 patients underwent LADG and simultaneous surgery, including 3 operations for colorectal cancer, 2 cholecystectomies, 1 extirpation of an intra-abdominal tumor, and 1 clipping of the inferior mesenteric artery after endovascular aneurysm repair for an abdominal aortic aneurysm.

Surgery was performed in a total of 58 patients (TME in 47 patients (81%), abdominoperineal extirpation in 9 patients (16%) and other type of surgery in 2 patients (3%)).
TIF was isolated from the fresh tissue (tissue weight mean = 0.32 ± 0.02 g, range 0.13 0.53 g) approximately 60 min after extirpation by centrifugation through a mesh-filter at 106 g for 10 min [23], [24] and stored at − 80 °C until further processing.
